Introducing Rev. Brunswick
Rev. Paul Brunswick is a second generation preacher, son of the late Rev. Freddie Brunswick, Pastor Emeritus of the Salem Missionary Baptist Church of Queens, NY, and Sis. Shirley Brunswick, President Emeritus of the Baptist Minister’s Wives and Widow’s Fellowship of the Eastern Baptist Association, Inc. He is the Overseer of Genesis Ministries of New York, and former Minister of Youth and Discipleship of the Salem Missionary Baptist Church of Queens, Rev. David Brunswick, Pastor. As Minister of Youth, Rev. Brunswick oversaw the ministries concerned with the spiritual, intellectual, social, emotional, and cultural growth and development of the young people of the church, including the Church at Study (Sunday School), the Youth Ministry (Imani Ministries), the Educational and Philanthropic Ministry (Mary McCloud Bethune Educational Council), Youth Choirs, Civic Ministries, and Outreach Ministries. As Minister of Discipleship, he oversaw the spiritual development of new believers which includes developing the new members’ curriculum, and overseeing and implementing class instruction. Rev. Brunswick’s experience as a school teacher gives him insight into the dynamics that motivate young people to succeed or fail on both the educational level, as well as the social/cultural level. These dynamics are the very ones that help develop the adults of today. The careful development of these factors enhances the positive creation of the kind of Christian set to engage this world, and to defend the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Rev. Brunswick endeavors to enable through his ministries and through the Gospel of Jesus Christ, Men and Women and boys and girls, the strength of character and Christian fortitude to engage the world in such a time as this.
Approach to Ministry
Rev. Brunswick is called to preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ. And he believes that through the preaching of the Gospel, a three-fold outcome will result: 1) Hearts will be convicted and turn to Christ, 2) men and women will be saved from damnation to life eternal, and 3) men and women will be saved to freely experience the Love of God, and will boldly enter into His service to proclaim the Gospel to the world. First, in turning to Christ, people must have a heartfelt sorrow for past sins, and try to sin no more. Secondly, in response for their salvation, Christians should be joyful that their names are now written in Heaven, and that the Father watches over them day and night. And thirdly, once freed from sin and death, Christians should accept God’s love, and commit themselves to the furthering of His kingdom here on earth. Rev. Brunswick is prepared to help congregants achieve all of these things by being available to them spiritually, emotionally, and tangibly. These will be achieved by praying over them for the fulfillment of their dreams and ambitions, counseling them to advise and guide them through life’s difficulties, and developing ministries to help them in all areas that they need help. Rev. Brunswick looks forward to the challenge of Pastorship, and all of the possibilities it entails.
Enhanced and Curriculum Vitae
Rev. Brunswick was licensed to preach by the Salem Missionary Baptist Church in 1994, and Ordained in 1999. Before then, he served in various capacities in the church including as an usher, choir member, member of the philanthropic ministry, and Sunday school officer and teacher. He has also represented the church as a delegate to the Eastern Baptist Association of NY, and the Empire Missionary Baptist Association of New York State. He has served as Youth Pastor in the church and Minister of Discipleship, as well as an officer in the Salem Development Corporation, and a Captain with the Church’s building fund Capitol Campaign. He now serves as founder and Overseer of Genesis Ministries of New York, a ministry dedicated to the uplifting of God’s anointed people, and to the revitalization of our community here in New York, and worldwide. Rev. Brunswick was educated in the public school system of NYC, and attended both Tuskegee University, and Howard University. After an extended break from school, during which he served in various capacities in service to his community, including as a volunteer at the Godian Fellowship Church soup kitchen, and as an Ameri*Corp Volunteer, Rev. Brunswick returned to school at York College of the City University of New York. While there, Rev. Brunswick excelled academically, earning numerous scholarships and fellowships including the York College Student Government Academic Scholarship for Juniors, the Alumni Association Academic Scholarship, and the Minority Access to Research Careers full academic Scholarship. Rev. Brunswick majored in Research Cultural Anthropology, and Co-majored in English Literature. After obtaining his Bachelor of Arts degree with honors in 1999, Rev. attended the University of Florida at Gainesville under a full graduate fellowship to study Anthropology under the famed Anthropologist, H. Russell Bernard. Rev. Brunswick feels that the most important lesson he learned while at the University of Florida was that hands-on, grass roots work in the field gave him the most joy. So prior to obtaining his degree, he left school to become a clinical counselor at a Women’s residential drug treatment center. He has since been a high school teacher in Florida and in NY, as well as a clinical counselor. His current vocational pursuits find him counseling adults, children, and families in NY. It is his gift as a minister that gives him the empathetic nature and human understanding that allows him to succeed as a counselor, and drives him to help the underserved. Rev. Brunswick is the fourth of six children to Freddie and Shirley, and is the uncle of 19 nieces and nephews. Rev. Brunswick Founded Genesis Ministries in order to reach and teach God’s disciples for the perfecting of faith in a faithless generation.
